The length of therapy varies depending on your goals and the complexity of what you’re working through. Some clients engage in shorter-term work focused on a specific issue, while others choose longer-term therapy to address deeper patterns, trauma, or life transitions.
We will revisit your goals regularly and adjust the pace and duration of therapy in a way that feels intentional and sustainable.
6. How long does therapy usually last?
A good fit should feel steady and collaborative. You should feel heard, respected, and gently challenged in ways that support real growth. If you’re looking for thoughtful, depth-oriented work that also includes practical tools, we may work well together.
I encourage scheduling a brief consultation to see if the space feels aligned with what you’re seeking.
5. How do I know if we're a good fit?
Session frequency depends on your goals, availability, and the level of support you’re needing. Many clients begin with weekly sessions to build momentum and stability, and may later shift to biweekly or maintenance sessions as progress is made.
We will revisit frequency together as your needs evolve to ensure the pace feels both supportive and sustainable.
4. How often will we meet?
2. What are your therapy fees, and do you accept insurance?
Pettway Counseling and Consulting does not currently accept insurance. The self-pay rate is $150 per 50-minute individual session and $200 per 75-minute couple's session. Superbills are available upon request for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice, as well as no-shows, are charged the full session fee.
If you reschedule within the same calendar week as your original appointment time, the late cancellation fee may be waived. This policy helps protect the time set aside for you and ensures consistency in care.
3. What is your cancellation policy?
1. Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?
Therapy and peer consultation are offered virtually, allowing for flexible and consistent access to services.
For speaking engagements, workshops, and organizational events, I may be available for in-person presentations. Travel and related event expenses are covered by the host organization when applicable.
At this time, I provide individual therapy for adults only. I do not offer couples, family, or child therapy services. If you’re seeking those services, I’m happy to provide referrals to trusted providers who specialize in that work.
7. Do you work with couples, families, or children?
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Therapy FAQ's
Brainspotting FAQ's
1. Do I have to relive my trauma during Brainspotting?
2. Is Brainspotting the same as EMDR or hypnosis?
No. Brainspotting does not require you to retell or relive every detail of a traumatic experience. While you may notice emotions or sensations connected to an experience, the process is paced intentionally and collaboratively. You remain in control throughout the session, and we move at a level your nervous system can tolerate.
Brainspotting is different from both EMDR and hypnosis. While EMDR follows a more structured protocol, Brainspotting is flexible and client-led. It also differs from hypnosis in that you remain fully awake, aware, and in control during the session. The focus is on noticing internal responses, not entering an altered state of consciousness.
3. What if I don’t “feel” anything during a session?
4. Can Brainspotting be combined with talk therapy?
That’s completely okay. Not everyone experiences strong emotional shifts right away. Some changes are subtle and unfold over time. There is no “right” way to do Brainspotting. The process meets your system where it is, and progress can look different from person to person.
Yes. Brainspotting can be integrated with traditional talk therapy and most other therapeutic approaches. It works well alongside reflection, skill-building, and practical problem-solving, and is tailored to your individual needs.
5. How do I know if Brainspotting is right for me?
Brainspotting may be helpful if you’ve gained insight through talking but still feel stuck emotionally or physically. It can also be useful if you struggle to put certain experiences into words. We can discuss your goals and decide together whether incorporating Brainspotting makes sense for you.
Peer Consultation FAQ's
1. Is this supervision?
No. Peer consultation is not clinical supervision and does not count toward licensure hours. It is a space for professional dialogue, guidance, and reflection, NOT formal supervisory oversight.
2. Is this therapy?
No. Peer consultation is not therapy. It is a professional development space focused on your work as a clinician, not personal mental health treatment.
3. What are the consultation fees?
Individual peer consultation is $60 for a 50-minute session. Monthly drop-in consultation groups are $25 per session. Consultation services are self-pay.
4. Do you offer group consultation?
Yes. I offer both individual peer consultation sessions and monthly drop-in consultation groups for clinicians seeking collaborative discussion and shared learning.
5. Do I need to prepare questions?
Preparation is helpful but not required. Many clinicians come with specific questions, while others use the space to process broader concerns or career direction. We can shape the conversation based on your needs.
